Nostrems, Mertsons, and Temsrons

So I've been hired to create a monster for a short, independent film, which I'm really excited about. The realistic version is more along the lines of how the final CG model will look. Up to now I've been keeping him pretty cartoony, as the bottom versions show. But the character is going to be integrated into a live action short, so the realism is necessary to keep with the look of the film. Because the director wants to create a monster who is both endearing and frightening, I need the audience to sense his disposition is a friendly one, but that he can turn quickly and become a monster in the true sense of the word. I'll be sure to post the colored version of the realistic monster as soon as I finish.

The drawing reminds of a character from Star Wars, New Hope. This was the 1st one made 30 years ago.
